BIOCIDES – Microbiology

Biocidi - microbiologia

Bactericidal activity – in vivo

  • Chemical disinfectants and antiseptics – Surgical hand disinfection ( UNI EN 12791); ( stage 2, stage 2)
  • Hygienic treatment of hands by friction (UNI EN ISO 1500); ( stage 2, stage 2)
  • Antibacterial activity: hygienic hand washing – “in use” efficacy testing on hands (UNI EN 1499:2013); (stage 2, stage 2)

Virucidal activity – in vitro

  • Virucidal efficacy studies against specific viruses according to standard (EN 14476) (quantitative suspension test) ;(stage 2, stage 1) This test is customized according to product use, concentration, contact time, and dirty or clean conditions.
  • Quantitative test for nonporous surfaces to evaluate, without mechanical action, the virucidal activity of chemical disinfectants used in the medical field (UNI EN ISO 16777) ;(stage 2, stage 2)

Sporicidal activity – in vitro

  • Environmental disinfection by automated processes-determination of sporicidal, bactericidal, fungicidal, levuricidal, virucidal, and phagoticidal activity. (UNI EN 17272); (stage 2, stage 1)
  • Quantitative test for the evaluation of the sporicidal activity of chemical disinfectants in the medical field (UNI EN 17126); (stage 2, stage 1)
Our microbiology laboratories offer consulting and testing services, to validate the efficacy of biocides against "target" microorganisms and to market PMCs or biocides.

Antimicrobial efficacy studies :

Depending on the field of application of the biocide, there are methods validated by international and national standards bodies to study their efficacy.

Two types of microbiological tests are performed on these:

  • Suspension test (phase 2-stage 1) existing standards : ( EN1276, EN1650, EN1370, EN13610, EN1656, EN1657, EN14204, EN14675, EN13623, EN13624, EN13727, EN14348, EN14476, EN11737-1, EN17272, EN 17126 )
  • Surface testing (phase 2-stage 2) standards in place: (EN13697, EN1499, EN1500, EN12791, EN14349, EN16437, EN16438, EN14561, EN14562, EN14563, EN16777 )

Tests performed by Prochemia cover the following laboratory tests:

Mycobactericidal activity – in vitro

  • Quantitative suspension test for the evaluation of the bactericidal activity of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics used in the food, industrial, cosmetic, household, and institutional fields (UNI EN 1276); (stage 2, stage 1)

  • A quantitative test of the efficacy of disinfectant products on nonporous surfaces in food, industrial, domestic and institutional field; (EN 13697); (stage 2, stage 2)

  • Determination of a population of microorganisms on medical devices (UNI EN ISO 11737-1); (stage 2, stage 1)

  • Quantitative suspension test for the evaluation of bactericidal activity in the medical area (UNI EN ISO 13727): (phase 2, stage 1)

  • Quantitative suspension test for the evaluation of the mycobactericidal activity of chemical disinfectants in the medical area, including instrument disinfectants – Test methods and requirements UNI EN ISO 14348: 2005); (phase 2, stage 1)

  • Quantitative suspension test for the evaluation of fungicidal or levuricidal activity in the medical field (UNI EN 13624 ); (phase 2, stage 1)
